Monroe Crossing starts the New Year with a brand new CD, "Mortals & Angels: A Bluegrass Te Deum". Another adventurous work by composer Carol Barnett and librettist Marisha Chamberlain, "Mortals & Angels" once again features the collaboration of Monroe Crossing and the renowned Minneapolis choir VocalEssence under the direction of Philip Brunelle.

Aside from the 12 movement Te Deum, VocalEssence also joins Monroe Crossing on two original gospel numbers, "Into the Fire" and "Micah 6:8." The choral parts were arranged by Carol Barnett and debuted at the performance in November. The CD also features a brand new Monroe Crossing song, "Billy Was Talking Only to Me." The lyrics were written by Gerald Laughing, a Native American military veteran who asked Monroe Crossing's Lisa Fuglie to compose the music. This is truly a unique recording. Order yours today!

"The text of Mortals & Angels: A Bluegrass Te Deum flows with a natural ease, and the music is sincere and without any pretense. This is a winning combination..."
--Jeffrey Williams, New York Concert Review, Inc., New York, NY.

But that's not all, we also released our second Christmas CD this past Holiday season. "Winter Wonderland" contains bluegrass versions of classic Christmas songs, some lesser known holiday tunes and two original Christmas songs by Lisa Fuglie. It's a wonderful way to help celebrate the Christmas season! After all, it's never too early to start your Christmas shopping!

Our fifteenth CD is entitled Monroe Crossing Plays Classic Country and it's a bluegrass treatment of songs from the golden era of country music. We perform our renditions of songs from such artists as George Jones, Hank Williams, Ray Price, Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. We had a lot of fun creating this project and we are excited for you to hear the results.

"Monroe Crossing has a long history of performing songs from styles of music other than bluegrass, and their latest project is sure to please both fans of bluegrass and classic country music. The band has created some clever and compelling arrangements of these wonderful songs from a great era in music, and the project features the outstanding pickin' and singin' we've come to expect from Monroe Crossing." -- Marty Scarbrough,  KASU Program Director
